Department of History

The History Department of Vivekananda Mission Mahavidyalaya was established in 1968 During that time, History was taught as a General or Elective subject. But the Department of History did not get the permission to introduce the Hons. Course for the next 33 years. At last, the affiliated university (Vidyasagar University) granted permission to introduce the Hons Course in History from the academic year 2001-02.

At present in the department we have two sanctioned full-time posts and both are filled up. One full-time post has been filled up in July 2008 and the other one in April 2010. Besides, there are three Part time teachers also in the department recruited by the College Authority for the smooth running of the Department. Very recently a Guest Lecturer has been appointed in the month of September. Among the Part-time teachers two have completed their M.Phil in History and the other one has a good academic record at the Postgraduate level.

In this current academic year, 2014-1 5, Postgraduate Courses started on 4 September 2014 after an affiliated university granted permission to open the Course in our department. In a rural college the challenge is always high to teach History successfully to economically backward students. We are striving hard to reach our goal so that students score high and reach the necessary standard. The Department also publishes a wall magazine named Chetana.
