Department of History

The History Department of Vivekananda Mission Mahavidyalaya was established in 1968. During that time, History was taught as a General or Elective subject. After thirty-three years of the establishment of the college, our affiliating university (Vidyasagar University) granted permission to introduce the Honours Course in History from the academic year 2001-02. At present, there are two sanctioned full-time posts, both being filled up. Besides, there are five teachers as SACT in the department recruited by the college authorities to ensure smooth functioning of the department. On and from the academic session 2014-15, the affiliating university granted permission to introduce postgraduation course in History. In a rural college, it is quite challenging to teach History successfully to economically backward students. We are striving hard to reach our goal so that students pass out with flying colours and reach the necessary standard. The department also publishes a wall magazine named Chetana which is a joint endeavor of the department teachers and students.
